Overview

Rooms & Facilities

A very warm welcome to Hanwell Montessori Nursery - Saren House.  We welcome babies and children from 3months to 5years and offer a warm and nurturing environment in our setting.  We are an open plan Nursery with a separate area for Under 2's.  Our spacious outdoor area is fully accessible and allows for free-flow throughout the day.

Miracles (0-1yrs) & Discoverers (1-2's)

Our Under 2's babies are based in an area together and they are able to spend time in the "Big" room with the over 2's.  We also encourage siblings to visit each other during the day.

There is a separate sleep room with cots and mats and a separate meal area.  Sensory activities, Treasure baskets and Heuristic play are provided in the baby room to encourage exploration/ language and physical development.  Our youngest babies are encouraged to have daily "tummy time".  Our Sing and sign Teacher comes in weekly - and staff follow it through in the daily routines.

Explorers (2's-3's)

We provide children with a balance of structure and choice and ensuring that all their social and emotional needs are met.  Explorers are the toddler group who are beginning to learn about their wider environment.  We ensure there is a language rich environment as this is the time where language development is rapid.  We have recently been a part of an Early Years Conversation Project - which is a project looking at Language development of 2yr olds.  This was done in conjunction with Durham University.

Inventors (3's-5's)

Our oldest children are encouraged to be independent with their self-care skills and activities are structured to enable them to make choices about their learning.  We look at the whole child and encourage their social and emotional development.  We believe that preparing them for school means they will be confident, resilient and show curiosity in their learning.

Children have the freedom to explore their learning environment as they wish and take part in a Montessori programme that is blended with elements from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Our highly qualified staff offer children a balance of fun, exploration and challenging activities. All children will be given a Key person when they start who will get to know you and your child as they learn and grow with us.

Food

At Hanwell Montessori Nursery and Pre-School we recognise that the food our children eat affects every aspect of their lives: their mood, behaviour, growth, even their ability to concentrate.

Good nutrition is vital to a child’s health from building strong bones and teeth to the healthy development of internal organs and general growth. Our carefully put together menu’s offer the children a well balanced diet on a daily basis. All our food is prepared at the nursery by a qualified chef.

We take care of each child's individual dietary requirement whether it is for cultural, religious or it is a dietary intolerance.

We feel that is important to teach the children the importance of eating healthy. The children learn about healthy choices and eat healthy while at school we will ensure meals; snacks and drinks provided by us are varied, nutritious, and well balanced

Hanwell Montessori is a beef, nut and pork free school, we also provide Halal meat and vegetarian/vegan options. The children are served water or milk only we also do not add any salt or sugar to our food.

During your time at Hanwell Montessori please feel free to discuss any dietary requirements with us.

What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is good Children arrive happy to meet staff, who greet them with a warm welcome. Staff talk to parents for a brief update so they can understand anything that may impact a child's day and adapt the day where necessary. Children quickly find their named peg to hang their coat and change from their outdoor shoes to their indoor shoes independently. They enter the rooms that staff thoughtfully set up to help children quickly engage in play. Staff are positive role models to children and provide them with good structure during the day. For example, staff prepare children for the next routine by ringing a bell to gain their attention. Children hold their hands in the air as they listen to what is next and follow instructions well. As a result, children behave well and have a good attitude to their learning. When playing outside, children build their physical development, such as by using tricycles and push-along resources to build their strength. They balance on boards with staff's support, who encourage them to keep trying. This helps to build children's confidence and resilience. Children enjoy exploring the environment around them and dig for insects. They use magnifying glasses so that they can see what small insects look like, and they shriek with excitement in what they can explore. Staff know children well and plan a child's day based on what interests them and what they need to know next. Leaders are ambitious for every child, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, to make good progress.
